Etymology[]

Maksim is a male first name of Serbian origin. It is common in Slavic-speaking countries, mainly in Bulgaria, Macedonia, Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine. The name is derived from the Latin family name Maximus, meaning "the greatest".

Nikolaevich is a Russian name meaning "son of Nikolai".

Yakovich derives from the ancient Hebrew given name Yaakov meaning "following-after". It comes from the name Jacob, a character from the Bible who was the twin brother of Esau, who took advantage of the latter's hunger and impetuousness to persuade him to part with his birthright.

Quotes[]

Maksim: Ruling involves intelligence and intimidation. In Russia, we know this. The key is to cultivate certainty that, should it be needed, violence is on offer and will be very much applied.

Pickering: Mr Yakovich. I'm not often intrigued, but your message... it intrigued. Please, have a seat.
Maksim: This is my associate, Xanthas Jordan. You know his father?
Pickering: Yes, I was, um, familiar with him.
Maksim: You'll find him a useful friend.
Pickering: What is this about, Yakovich?
Maksim: This is about a hotel in Knightsbridge called the Firedrake.
Pickering: I've—I've never heard of it.
Maksim: Really? Then you will be shocked to learn that you have earned 30,000 galleons from it in the last three months. We would like to buy it from you. We have the contracts ready for signature.
Pickering: But it's not for sale.
Maksim: If you are not careful, Mr Pickering, then you might find that in future, there will be less polite approach. So please, sign here.

Maksim: What they want is to know who is the local firm, because they will colonise London by financing that firm then franchising the city. So you must prove to the Italians that we are the only game in town. The world could be our oyster!
Xanthas: Yakovich.
Maksim: Yes?
Xanthas: You say "our" a lot, don't you? You say "our" and you also say "we" a lot.
Maksim: Yes...
Xanthas: My point is, is your last name Jordan?
Maksim: Listen, Xanthas. You keep the pearls. I am already very happy with the soft bits.

Maksim: Marriage to a Jordan is not exactly a bed of roses, is it?
