Juliet Quisling (née Jordan) was a pure-blood witch of the wealthy Jordan family, and the elder sister of Lycus Jordan. Like the rest of her family, she attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was sorted into Slytherin House.

After Hogwarts, she married a Muggle-born named Edward Quisling, and wrote a letter to the Daily Prophet attempting to expose the lies and abuse that were happening within her household. However, her plan was foiled, resulting in her being disowned from the family. From that point onward she and her relatives had no further contact.

Etymology[]

The name Juliet is a French baby name diminutive of Julie, and ultimately comes from the Latin nomen (or clan name) Julius, or "son of Jove". In French it means "youthful."

Jordan is a unisex name derivative from the Hebrew word "yarden", meaning to descend or "to go down." This name is also taken from the river Jordan in the Middle East. At the time of the Crusades it was common practice for crusaders and pilgrims to bring back flasks of water from the river in which John the Baptist had baptized people, including Christ himself, and to use it in the christening of their own children. As a result Jordan became quite a common personal name.

Notes[]

Trivia[]

  • Juliet shares a name with Juliet Capulet, the female protagonist in William Shakespeare's romantic tragedy Romeo and Juliet. In the play she falls in love with Romeo, a member of the House of Montague with which the Capulets have a blood feud. This may allude to Juliet Jordan's estrangement from her own family, due to her involvement with a poorer Muggle-born.
