Etymology[]

The name Ariadne derives from Hesychius' listing of Άδνον, a Cretan-Greek form for 'arihagne' which means utterly pure. In mythology, Ariadne was the immortal wife of the god Dionysus and was the daughter of Minos, King of Crete. She is mostly associated with myths and labyrinths due to her involvement in the myths of the Minotaur and Theseus.

Her middle name, Fidelma, is of Irish origin and has a meaning of faithful.

The surname Finnigan is of Irish origin and is an Anglicization of the Gaelic "O' Fionnagain", meaning the descendant(s) of Fionnagan, an Old Irish personal name derived from the word "fionn", white, fairheaded.

Quotes[]

Ariadne: What was your first reason?
Niklaus: Excuse me? This isn't about me, Aria.
Ariadne: But it is. It's about you and Eric. Maybe Eric can't learn because you lost track of your reason.
Niklaus: This is ridiculous.
Ariadne: This world is crumbling to violence and pettiness and greed, and Eric is sensitive enough to feel it and he's angry. He's angry and he's lost. And in order to find him, you'd have to teach yourself again, and you decided somewhere along the way that you were done learning. It's too painful to stay open.
Niklaus: I think we all face the same hopelessness, Aria. It's what we decide to do with it.
Ariadne: You're right. So what are you going to do? If you want to do your job, expel the bully. Focus on the kid who's in touch with each of your magical creatures even though he doesn't need you. If you want to be a teacher, teach Eric. He's the boy you can help become a man. He's the one you lost. He's your first reason.
