Etymology[]
The name Ariadne derives from Hesychius' listing of Άδνον, a Cretan-Greek form for 'arihagne' which means utterly pure. In mythology, Ariadne was the immortal wife of the god Dionysus and was the daughter of Minos, King of Crete. She is mostly associated with myths and labyrinths due to her involvement in the myths of the Minotaur and Theseus.
Her middle name, Fidelma, is of Irish origin and has a meaning of faithful.
The surname Finnigan is of Irish origin and is an Anglicization of the Gaelic "O' Fionnagain", meaning the descendant(s) of Fionnagan, an Old Irish personal name derived from the word "fionn", white, fairheaded.
